Recently,  I was talking to someone about productivity, and she said something that caught my attention: I can’t be productive because I can’t do all the things I want. When I started to coach her, she said: I am too old to use technology as you do.

From here, I took two things: the first one is that every people have its own definition of being productive. That could be doing more in less time, or totally the opposite. To clear doubts, I recommend you to read this great article from Lisa Montanaro about defining productivity. With it, you can then get your own definition of being productive.

The second thing is that technology, in general, is for everyone, regardless of age, gender or sex. At this point, anyone can use technological tools to do what they want, because the only requirement is the desire.

You can be a cabinetmaker with a successful business wanting to expand more, or a housewife wanting to do the chores more efficiently. For them, there are many tools they can use to accomplish those desires, and for you too as well!

Here are a few examples of how to increase your productivity using technology:

1. You are someone who uses the phone too much

Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Reddit….. You dominate all these social media sites. But guess what? you can’t do something without using your phone, thus distracting you every single time. What can you do to mitigate this? you can use apps such as Forest that help you concentrate and leave your phone in a funny way: after you set a time, a tree will be growing. If you use the phone before the time runs out, you will kill the tree. You don’t want that, right? you can download it for iOS and for Android.

technology is for everyone, regardless of age, gender or sex.

2. You have many tasks to complete for your community

Prepare the flyers for a Sunday activity, contact the food retailers to ensure the snacks will be prepared, talk to the treasurer to check funds available, and the list goes on. I know you are talented but, are you really going to keep track of everything always? in those cases, we need to use task managers that can help us remember what to do and how. I further explain In Why You Should Use a To-Do App the importance of having a task list and how you will be more productive by using it.

3. You manage several documents every day and would like to have them online

Let’s review the process of this documents: first, you get the document, later you go to the scanner, you set the configuration, elegantly you put the document in the scanning zone, you click scan. Oh, and after you need to organize them in your computer. Way too much steps.

What if told you that you can just get your phone, put it in front of the document, done. Yes, there are several apps such as Scannable for iOS and CamScanner for Android that can do the job for you. Much easier right?

Technology is more than just a tool nowadays, is becoming part of our lives. Using it to maximize our efficiency in what we do is essential. No matter what your situation is, there are inventions out there that can help you out.

Are you increasing your productivity using technology?
